Something that surprised me was the amount of diverse art skills there were, not just like drawing, music, and dance, but also just like drawing, painting, oil pastel, and all the different genres. One thing I enjoyed was watching and listening to the music in the front part inside East.
This outdoor shoot was extremely difficult due to the amount of time, and the lighting. Half the time the subject was in the light but then the other half she wasn't. The lighting was difficult, but i tried to adjust it through the white balance, and through Photoshop. Also, small strands of hair were getting in the way of the face so I tried to crop/edit some out. Also, I never had time for a studio shoot because I have not been to school for a while due to hockey and other complications.
In this activity we were asked to set our cameras to auto white balance and photograph a white piece of paper. The purpose of this activity to see the different affects of light without any white balance in different lighting conditions. As you can see from the photos, the more light, the more yellow tones, the less light the more blue tones. When photographing portraits of my own I need to change the white balance according to the light to ensure my white balance is correct for my subject.
This was my first attempt at doing the David Hockney photos, and I feel like I was to far away form the object, and should have got closer. I feel like this was one of the harder shots, but I feel like I have a little more comfort taking this now, and may try another attempt if this one doesn't turn out well.
This project I found very difficult because during our shooting time I had a hockey tournament in Phoenix, so I had to take them at home with a camera that was not of the quality of the ones we use in class. For the shots of my dog I used a shutter speed of 400, aperture of 3.6, and my ISO was on AUTO. For the plant I had a shutter speed of 640, aperture of 5.6, and my ISO was on AUTO. Then for the panning car shot I had my shutter speed of 400 or 200 (I don't really remember), I don't remember the aperture, and the ISO was on AUTO. I found these shots a little rush and of not great quality, but some came out ok.
During this shoot our group used ISO AUTO and a shutter speed of 200. This shoot found harder than all the other motion project shoots, but when we succeeded in taking a good shot, it felt more rewarding. Getting the background blurred, and getting the whole car not blurred was the most difficult part of the shoot. Personally, I also felt like getting the image in the center of the shot was very difficult.
During this shoot we set our camera to 30 shutter speed and ISO on AUTO. This was different then the sharp action because on the sharp action we had to have all the motion stop and get minimal blur. During this shoot we had to capture the blur to show motion, which was a little different, and harder than sharp action. This time we had to take multiple attempts, and do a couple retakes. I still think overall that we did a good job capturing the motion and getting the perfect amount of blur in the photos.
Some of these photos were my first attempt to do a sharp action photo. First, we changed the shutter speed to 400, and the ISO to 400. Next we went into the back hallways where there was a lot of light, and had the people jumping go higher than the person taking the photo. We started taking the photos before the person jumped to make sure we got all the motions of the jump, and to not have any failure of not capturing the shot. Overall I thought that our group did well at taking and capturing all the elements the shots needed, especially for a first shoot.
These are the pictures that I used to create my story of a man running to class because he is late. As I was doing this project I learned that preparing and making a plan for your shoot is very important to the story, I did not have time for this as I transferred in the middle of the project, but caught on that a plan is key to having a good story. I also feel like I had a good setting, but could have used more props (backpacks, another person, ect.) to make the story more complete. Also, if I finished the story with a image without anyone in the shot, I feel like it would make the story have a complete ending, and make the story better. I also added a black and white filter to the shot to give it a more dark and intense look, and to give the story less background, and more space to infer and be creative with the story. Overall I feel like I did a good job for this being my first project in this class, but feel like I still have a lot to improve on to be able to create the best piece possible.
